Amelioration the Sustainable Control of Invasive Insects

Ameliorating the Sustainable Control of Invasive Insects (ASCII) is a new project that promotes the development of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices for the sustainable control of the leafminer Tuta absoluta, and the spotted wing fly Drosophila suzukii, invasive pests of tomato and fruit crops, respectively. Fostered by Endure mobility programme and cooperation with partners outside Europe initiatives, and funded under the European Commission’s FP7 International Research Staff Exchange programme (Marie Curie-IRSES), ASCII is designed to contrast the recent and sudden spreading of Tuta absoluta from Spain and of Drosophila suzukii from Southeast Asia. Teams specialized in insect pest management from Europe, USA, Argentina, Brazil and China have been involved namely: Institute National de Recherches Agronomique, France, Rothamsted Research, Harpenden, United Kingdom, Università degli Studi di Catania, Universidad Federal de Viçosa Brazil, Oregon State University, Oregon, USA , Universidade Federal Rural de Pernambuco Brazil, European Biological Control Laboratory USDA USA, Universidade de la Plata Argentina, Huazhong University of Agriculture, People’s Republic of China, University of California Berkley USA, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science, Institute of Plant Protection, People’s Republic of China
