Clonal traceability in the Nebbiolo production chain.

In viticulture, since long time the nursery sector uses propagation material obtained by clonal selection. However, an effective traceability system to highlight the clonal variability is not currently available. At the same time in the oenological field, the traceability of wines and consequently the protection of the consumer from fraud are still unsolved problems and very important from the economic point of view.

The project provides an in-depth study of new genetic markers, SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms), which enable the molecular characterization of intravarietal variability of Nebbiolo. In this context, the development of methods to actually make ‘talking’ the products of the wine industry is critical to the protection and enhancement of territorial identity of the wines/vines.
